What amp would you consider the opposite of the Aguilar DB751?

First off, I'm not bashing the 751. I have one and LOVE it. If I had to describe the tone in few works, I'd say it's warm, smooth, wooly and mellow, and each note has the heft of a mack truck!

I'm looking at getting another head and I want a Yin to the 751's Yang.

Something clean, bright and punchy. A bit more in your face and aggressive. I'm thinking going with something solid state, but I'd imagine there's probably a hybrid or even an all tube amp that could possibly fit the bill.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I bought one of those before. Long story short, it was as dead as a doornail when it arrived (wouldn't power on) so I returned it and got the Aggie head. I was thinking of maybe going with a GK head, but maybe the 800RB.

do you want it to be roughly the same power as the 751? If not I'd look at maybe the EBS HD350 or something by SWR

ps. when you say different to the 751 are you looking for more Hi-Fi or more growly?

The 751 is a powerhouse, I'd be happy with something right around 300 watts minimum.

Primarily looking for something well suited for rock, so growly would be more useful than hifi IMO.

+1

If OP wants growl, then may be the GK 1001 instead of the 2001.

Are you trying to stay in the same ballpark as far as power is concerned?

What is your budget?

The first thing that comes to mind is a GK 800RB as has already been mentioned. Something bright, tight down low and fairly grindy/aggressive in the upper mids.

Clearly, the answer is the 157BD.

The name's Tom everybody. He'll be here all week. The 7:30 show is nothing like the 9:30. Remember to tip your waitress.

I would say the GB Shuttle 6.0 would be a a good choice for a totally opposite tone.

I'd try an old Acoustic head. There are several models. Pretty much the opposite there. Some people are giving those things away. They're super loud, bright and ridiculously punchy.

GK 700RB-II I think would suit you perfectly. Definitely aggressive and punchy, but a little less power than the 100RB-II which I use.
