What bass & amp was used on this song?

I just downloaded "Hungry Eyes" by Jim Mesinna. Hadn't heard it in probably 30 years but remembered I really liked it. Now I know why - it has about 5 minutes of nothing but a jamin' bass line. So my question is, who was the bassist, what was he playing, and was he miked or was this direct? You can listen for free at I-Tunes but the free sample ends before the bass takes over.

It's "Angry Eyes" by Kenny Loggins, the record is by Loggins & Messina, the bassists was probably Larry Simms (I don't have an album jacket to verify credits), and my recollection of Simms from seeing them live in those days and on TV a good bit is that it was a Jazz Bass. No idea about the amp.

That's how I've always done it.

That is a fine bass sound, by the way. Great old tune. And yeah, that's a Kenny Loggins song...

Check out "Love has come of age" for a cool old bass part in a Loggin's song...

This thread made me me realize I don't own these tunes.... Just bought them.

Angry eyes: I'm thinking that's a P-bass board in. Just my guess.

I never got that good of a sound out of my old P-bass. Thanks for the info from everyone. More may come. Who knows, the bassist or engineer on it may be reading this.

just watched an old midnight special from 73 with them on it, and larry sims is using a jazz bass and a fender rig...looks like a 70's dual showman and a 215. could be wrong about the model, but definitely a fender:

It couldn't be a Fender Showman. Everybody knows they suck.

Wow, you are right.
That is one of the best bass tones I have ever heard.
And it's a rockin' bass line.
Thanks!

yep, that's a dual showman reverb all right. IMO, they're great sounding bass amps.
