I'd look at a better 8 ohm cab - SWR, perhaps.

Get an efficient cabinet. It'll help you get more power out of less amp in the case you should ever need to get loud.

Why an 8 ohm for the GK 800 RB ? Why not a 4 ohm? 8 ohm give me 200 watts. 4 ohm 300 watts.

How about this to go with GK 800 RB http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....net?sku=580260

We play classic rock. Guitar player plays thru 75 watt Line spider miked and other guitar player plays thru half stack Marshall.

8 or 4 Ohm, it really doesn't matter, IMO. The 800RB has plenty of power and will sound great with any good quality cab. I've used mine with 1x15, 2x15, and an SWR Goliath III 8 Ohm.
G-K's 200 watts can sound like some other's 400 watts.

I called Guitar Center. They said they still have the GK in stock. They warned me the power light does not come on it does not work. I'm going pass on this one. This is a loser. Have to find another head. http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/index.cfm

Any websites that sells used gear besides Guitar Center?

I could not find any used GK 800s. They have a GK 700 used. Is this as good as the 800? http://www.daddys.com/detail.php?ite...umber=GAK2743A

That's an older 700 series I. You can find a 700RBII and have the current version. Or for just a little more change, one of the newer MB500 ultralites.

Sorry the one you wanted didn't pan out.

Also somebody recommended this brand Found a used USED GENZ BENZ SHUTTLE 3.0 250W BASS HEAD for $300. 250 watts might not be enough. What do you think of this one?

well...

I’d get a 4 ohm, 2x12 cab for the low amp and a single, 8 ohm 12” cab for the high amp.

Either that or a 4 ohm, 4x10 on the bottom and an 8 ohm, 2x10 on top.

Now your utilizing the head to its full potential.

Of course many people just bypass the upper amp altogether, in which case you can go with just about any 4 ohm cab on the bottom, including an 8x10 which is a very popular combination.

Not sure what your budget is for a cab but I tried an 800RB through my NV610 this past weekend in a club and liked it so much I used it instead of my SVTII at a large venue (800 reserved seats + gen adm.) the following night this past weekend and it was amazing in both venues. I think as long as you stick with a better quality cab you'll be happy. Interesting suggestion from jeff7bass though, suspect that would suit you well also.

A larger 4 ohm cab or a pair of efficient 8 ohm cabs both plugged into the 300 watt section of the amp will be fantastic. The 800rb is renown for sounding fantastic through an 810 or a 215. I owned one for most of a decade and used a number of different cabs through it and its still a fabulous amp in so many ways.

+1
Hartke 210XL/115XL stack plugged into the 300 watt section sounds absolutely fantastic with the 800RB.

Budget $500-$900

Which is the better deal?

$500-$900
Brand new GK 800. Is this a good deal?
NEW GK 800RB

or is this a better deal. Don't know the age of this one.
FT: GK 800RB

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will sell outright or trade. $350.

"I've decided to let go my trusty GK 800RB. Functions perfectly and looks great. All knob inserts (I have the ones missing in the photos). Racked all its life.

You guys know this amp. Clean, powerful, 2 channel (300+100watts), 3 rackspace. Pics show excellent condition."

The following was a response from the seller of the used GK for $350

"The shipping would have to be on your dime it is not included in the price. It is a older version, but still has all of the same features as a newer one without the rack ears. Here is a pic. of what it looks like."

It shouldn't cost more than $40-50 to ship, but that is a conservative price... the head weighs around 23-24lbs. I am not the original owner, I traded for it from a guy in Dallas. He has had it for at least 3-4yrs with no issues, he nor I have pushed it very hard and it is in great shape. It does have scratches on the top and the sides of the amp but that to be expected for an amp that is at least 10yrs old and hasn't been kept in a rack. All of the knobs and inputs are fine to the best of my knowledge. This by far is the loudest 300watt bass amp I have had... It has headroom and a presence that even soild state amps with twice the power would be hard to beat.

Lots of good deals right now-economy. I would if you can go to a store and try a few and then come back here pay to be a member and buy used. maybe during your research time you might save a little more money and be able to get a better cab.

Avatar TB153. Kills. Loud and low. Price is right too. You could get 2 8 ohm TB's for the price of one "nice" cab. It would destroy. One 4 ohm is all the volume I need. Very efficient with the 3015LF.

In order to buy from the talk bass classifieds you have to be a paying member?
