What Is The Best Rack Bag?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I'm looking for a new 3 space rack bag and wondered if anyone has had any experience with one that is exceptional?

I have used a 2 space Gator bag and liked it, but I am wondering if there are any better choices out there.

I looked at Odyssey but they kind of look cheap.

Any help will be appreciated!

+1 on the Aguilar. I use the 2 space version and it's awesome. Made by Pro Tec:

Can it carry a heavy amp? Those handles look fairly weak.

Thumbs up

I just got an Odyssey BR312 (IIRC) 3 space, 12" deep. Seems to be a very well made bag. The one thing I really dislike about it is the big zippered pouch on the front flap. It holds quite a bit but makes folding it under pretty bulky. It can be reoriented to flip over the top (still looks bulky), I'd rather just have the pouch not be on either end flap.

~$70 at GC online. I use it with a Yamaha PB-1 preamp and a Crown Drivecore XLS1000 power amp. Works great and the Odyssey was the only 3 space in this depth that I found. The inner sleeve is removable from the bag itself.

I like my protec 3U one. Carries my SVT pre + QSC power amp easily. Handles are solid on it.

My Aguilar bag has my DB750 in it. I have more faith in the attached handles than I do in my ability to lift it after a gig.

I use a 2 space rack bag by Kaces, it was 60 bucks at guitar center but is actually very sturdy.

I've tried various rack bags and my only gripe with them is having to fold the front flap underneath the bag, and even the back flap if you are fussy. And sooner or later those zippers wear out. I finally just sucked it up and use a regular SKB shallow rack.

I think out of all so far, I will end up going with the Protech.

jnewmark: I really don't care for the regular rack. I would rather replace my rackbag every couple years than deal with a reg. rack. I just don't like them. But thanks for your input!

I will say that with the Odyssey rack bag, you can actually take off the front of the bag and no folding under. You can actually remove the rack from the bag altogether!
But I am ok with folding the flap under.

Thanks guys!!

The flaps on mine aren't removable.

Kind of unique feature with the Oddyssey bag in that the " rack " itself is removable. How exactly does that work, and what is exposed when removed from the bag ?

I'd like to see the odyssey with the rack removed also. My power amp is a 1U convection cooled that I need empty space above it so I carry a 4U SKB style which is bulkier than I would like.

A 2U open rack frame with a bag would be much nicer maybe.

It has a carpet or fabric covered interior wooden rack. Not hard to remove or replace. Only thing exposed are the front and the rear. Works great with the Crown Drivecore which has front to back ventilation.

I took the Odyssey out again and this time I took the rack sleeve out of the bag. Very easy and the rack looked good sitting on top of the cabs. Putting it back in the bag was a piece of cake. This is likely the way I'll use it from now on.
