Question What cab/amp should I get?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone this is my first post so bear with me. I'm looking for a new bass rig to buy for the hardcore band I play in. The guitarist are really loud so I was thinking an 8x10 or two 4x10 for surround sound. We play a good amount of shows and are gonna do a little touring this summer. Any suggestions for good cab/amp? BTW I can get an ampeg 810 with a 6pro head for $1400 new. Good deal?

Guitarist 1 uses
4x12 orange cab w/ Peavey 6505 head
Guitarist 2 uses
4x12 orange cab w/ Marshall TSL 60 head

My bands myspace is: myspace.com/ontheshouldersofatlas

Thanks for the help!

The 810 and 6 pro sounds like a good deal to me, but I have no knowledge of US pricings on used stuff.

Maybe for touring you might want to get something nice and lightweight, like the 7 or 8 pro heads.

the ampeg 810 and 6pro are both new. I would consider the 7 or 8 pro, but I'm not sure I can get the same kind of deal

6Pro's an awesome head. Paired with an 810 should kill.

I'm going to say it....I can't stand 810's. I'd rather have two 410's or even a 410 and a 115. I see people walk into small club gigs with full stacks and 810 cabs and the sound ends up being horrible because everyone's stage volume is way to loud and there is no way the sound man can mix...I've played a 410 at all sorts of gigs big and small. I've rarely ever need my bass in a monitor.

Past a certain minimum, number/size of drivers or brand of cabinet or head matters less than what sounds good to you. I wouldn't feel too bad 'buying the Talkbass consensus,' but I sure as hell wouldn't do it new, because I can almost guarantee you'll go through a few different options before you know what you like best. Go play a bunch of stuff to get a feel for what you like.
