What cab with an ampeg amp?

Hey guys.

Looking at updating from my old peavey combo to some sort of stack. I've pretty much decided to go with some sort of ampeg amp (pf350 or pf500) but still undecided on the cab. I am also considering the ampeg micro vr stack.

I have been thinking about going with the ashdown mag 410 cab cause it is relatively cheap and gets pretty good reviews. Will this amp and cab compliment each other? Is there cabs I'm overlooking in this price range?

I play in an acoustic band and will be doing alot of gigs without the cabinet, going in through the amp then di to then pa mixer. The cab will be more for home and other musical endeavours. I want something with value and that is relatively cheap. Not looking for anything too over the top or expensive.

What's your thoughts and opinions?

Get the Ampeg head, then take it around to various music stores and try it out with all the cabs you can. It's a pretty subjective thing, and only you can say what sounds the best, or comes close to your tonal goals.

Why dont you stick with the same maker and get an Ampeg cab. Youll love the ampeg sound

I'd suggest your looking into Avatar bass cabinets, their inexpensive but built with great componets.
I love the sound I'm getting by running my Ampeg PF-500 head into two, 8 ohm, Avatar 210 Neo cabinets stacked as a vertical 410.
I can use one cabinet for rehearsals/small gigs, both cabinets when more volume and coverage is needed.
Avatar uses a front ported cabinet loaded with Eminence's top of the line 2510 drivers with a custom x-max, Eminence crossovers, Foster horns, ect., (the very same componets that are used in "most" commercially built, brand-name, high-dollar cabinets......)

If you want the Ampeg PF head, I'd get the matching fliptop PF115 cab that it's designed to work with.

Plus it looks so classy!

I recently acquired a PF500 and a B15-N. I still want two new PF 115HE's to run with the PF500 or as a separate matched stack for my B15.

I was considering the portaflex cab, but is it good enough to gig with if need be? I know it would be fantastic for home, but I want it to be versatile aswell.

In regards to the avatar cab, I have researched them because they get alot if love around here. My only problem is I

I'm primarily a GK person. But there's a venue here in NYC that has an Ampeg Micro VR stack for backline. I've played there lots of times, and every time I've finished a show there I've said to myself... Dang, that's one nice sounding rig. Played there this past Friday and decided that if one of those comes up for the right price I think I'll grab it. So... This GK person has some love for the Micro VR.

I often use the PF350 with two SVT 210av's. I think they sound quite awesome. If you want a medium duty cab that sounds great and doesn't weigh much or cost a lot, the 210av is a very good choice. If you want a cab that sounds great and can take some higher levels of power, then I'd recommend one of the PF cabs.

Used Genz Benz NeoX212T. I suggest this cab A LOT because it works so well with Ampeg heads, it's lightweight, it's relatively cheap used, and because it can get stupid loud.

I have the pf500 with the ashdown mag410 cab. Works great for me, and @8 ohm can add a second later on. It's plenty loud with good bottom end.

I was leaning more towards the pf350 initially. However, with a bit more research, it would probably be better to spend the extra cash and get pf500 with the extra features and power. My concern was how it sounded with the ashdown cab. Good to hear some positive reviews!

I need a medium size rig to play 80s covers; drummer is not loud as he is one of the lead vocalists and generally plays at a level comfortable for him to sing over. Also have a keyboard player. Auditioning guitarists; most of the guys who come in have Les Pauls/SGs/PRSs and Marshalls. I have a Fender Jaguar.

I'm looking at Ampeg because I like the sound and I have a chance to get some of it discounted.

I am looking at the Micro-VR (played and loved, but concerned about power), a portaflex setup (PF350/210) and a B2R head with a standard 410HE cab. I can spend about $700 but not much more.

I like 210s and 410s but I also want something that isn't super heavy as I have back issues.

I'd get the 500. The 350 I tried in the store didn't get loud enough to even cover my rehearsal needs; and my band isn't that loud at rehearsals. I see it more as a bedroom/acoustic gig head. The 500, on the other hand, seemed to be more able to handle my needs, but it still didn't get as loud as my Markbass LMIII (which is my rehearsal head).

That said, those are my needs. Yours might be different

I do play in an acoustic band, however I am looking at versatility. I want something that can cater for acoustic and electric, amp for gigging (play through pa) and cab and amp for home/recordings.

I would ideally like to get the pf500, but just need some advice. Ashdown is a good choice for the cab?
