What cab provides the uniform sound spread across the stage/room?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, the title says it.
I have the Berg HS410 cabinet and while I love it, I find that the sound differs a lot at various locations on the stage or room.
Might to do something with my new Relay wireless, that I found that.
I know some effects are just inevitable physics, like lows accumulation near walls and corners, but I believe the cab type can somewhat make the sound spread in the room more uniform for better or more directional for worse. Maybe thats just the nature of the 4x10 beast, which I have.

What cab type or specific model will provide more consistent sound in the room or stage?

On 75% of my gigs the bass cab serves for filling the room and PA is used mostly for vocals and keys.
The minority of gigs we have big PA where the cab is just my stage monitor.

Not many manufacturers engineer their cabs for even coverage because it doesn't look as cool (or what people are used to). There are two people who are regulars here that offer plans for cabs that do exactly what you are looking for.

fEARful™ enclosures for bass/drums/keys

They are DIY designs but there are excellent builders available if desired.

So you say some sort of 15/6 configuration would be better in this regard than the 410?
Actually, I don't need "the best" boutique solution, just better than now, for moderate price. Would the Avatar TB153 be worthwhile?
Also, for my Walkabout head I would need the 4 ohm version, I figure fEARful does not offer this.

The 15/6 combination does offer a better spread than a 4x10 for some very specific sciency reasons that I will let others attempt to explain. The Avatar TB153 is a great option. BTW guess what the TB stands for?

Of course, a vertical array of smaller cabs will provide very good horizontal dispersion as well. This my look funny, but it works.

Good point! Two Berg 2x10 cabs stacked vertically would make a very killer rig with great horizontal dispertion.

.
Two 2x10s or 2x12s stacked with the drivers on a vertical line. For problem stages rotate the bottom cab towards the 'dead spot', leave the top cab aimed at you.

Thanks guys for the insight! All good points. I also think about the GB Neox 212T - with vertical configuration of drivers.

You got the idea. Pay attention to the speaker alignments and you will be half way there. Listening to them is the other half.

And the vertical alignment means truly aligned, no "diagonal" arrangement of the 12s in the cabs. The centers should be in a vertical line. This lets out many 212 cabs.

When you're talking about the low, full range speakers vertically stacked are going to be your best bet... But once you get into the mids & highs that only gets so far... As you run into beaming issues. That's where 2 & 3 way cabs with small diameter drivers for mid & highs help out on a wide stage and in the room if you're carrying it whith your amp.
