What cabinet to add?

Sign in to disble this ad
I play a GK 700RBII head with a GK Neo 2x12 cabinet. I would like to add a second GK cabinet. What would be the most compatible one to add? What speaker size would best complement this cabinet?

Thanks!

So are you guys suggesting that choosing 12's limits you to using ONLY 12's?

The reason I ask is that I've been auditioning cabs to add an extension to my Markbass CMD121P combo. I know that typically you'll see players run a 2x10 with a 15... but in real-world auditions (with my amp and my bass), I really liked the sound of a 15 with the 12. The 12 is already giving me plenty of punch for my applications, and the 15 seemed to add that sub-40hz fundamental that really made my 5ers sound thicker.

Anybody out there combine 12s with 15s?

I like the sound of 15s and 12s, and currently use an Orange SP212 with an OBC115. It sounds great!

@ FromTheBassMent: No, they are not saying that choosing 12's limits you to using only 12's

What they are saying is that adding another identical cabinet is the best choice if you want to have the same sound but more volume (the most common reason for adding more cabs)

You can effectively use any combination of cabinets that your head is capable of running, but a 115 even from the same manufacturer will have different power handling and tonal qualities to the 212, this means that the cabinets will respond differently to any eq adjustments you might do and if pushing the cabs, you could find one cab distorts before the other due to the different power ratings.

Of course if you are a player who pays attention to what your rig is doing then these really aren't issues. They are just saying that theoretically adding another identical cab is gonna have less possibilities of messing with your sound than a different one

Before you start to add cabinets what is the impedance of your existing 2x12??
