What to do for live signal A/B/Y with dirt?

I posted this in another thread, but reading through several of these types of threads has left me guessing that each situation may need a different approach and I really don't want to derail anyone elses thoughts or questions....

I'm in need of a practical soulution for this.....


One is clean and the other is dirty and there are more effects now, including fuzz. The amp has an xlr out with pre or post. Any suggestions/arguments/debates?

In the other thread, it was suggested to mix the signals or to treat the dirty as a guitar signal. I'm at a loss, really. I run a mixture of A/B/ and Y depending on the song or part.

Thanks Boogie. I've got a buffer at the beginning of my chain. I'm searching for a solution for gigging. What has been suggested, that makes the most sense, is to DI the clean and buy a good mic for the dirty and hope for a sound guy that will work with me.

I always use the rbi for a "little" grit. I've been messing around with my tech 21 gt2. It has speaker emulation and direct I can get a tone very similar the guitar tone on meshuggahs album "Nothing." Putting it in front of my bass rig I loose low end, some of the distortions character, and get feedback problems a high volumes. But run independently of the RBI its a cool enough sound that I keep the pedal just in case I want to use I it in the studio. My ideal thing to do would be to get powered pa cab for the gt2 and run my normal bass rig independently. I tried it with a floor monitor and liked it a lot(much better than going through a bass cab) But figuring out a way to be able to send just one signal to FOH live is the problem. I use a jamman pedal for samples kinda like having a free part time keyboard player or orchestra in the band. so I'm already taking up two channels. If I used two channels of bass I'd need 3 channels to be able to run the sampler and I don't want to worry about going to a new club an not being able to get that sound.

It's been some years since I really gigged. Back then, it was simple, there either wasn't PA support or I ran direct. Now, I'm using effects and running two amps. We're a small band... one guitarist, drums on a 5 piece kit, me, and vocals. There is a possibility of needing a couple of channels for backup vocals. I wonder how difficult it would be to get two channels for bass?
