What do you think of this setup...

I've been thinking a lot tonight, (so this might sound silly since it's midnight)

Tech 21 3 Channel Bass DI or VT Bass Deluxe used as a preamp or direct to house PA.

It seems like then you could have at least 3 different channels, in my case a clean, fuzzy, and really fuzzy.

Decent plan, or do I need sleep?

I see nothing wrong with that? IIRC many people do that

That will work. I would prefer the programable 3 channel Bass Driver D.I. but the VT can work well too.

I have a standard Bass Driver D.I. that I used as a preamp to my power amp and I always have used it as a direct to the PA when no amps were used on stage. It was actually nice only hauling my pedal board and my bass.

Good to know. Are there any other similar items to the Tech 21 that would get the same result? And if I needed a cab, would it power a decent power amp into a 4x10?

The lightest I ever go is my Phil Jones Suitcase. I use the DI to the P.A. and then I've still got my own monitor on stage. The sound coming out of monitors, which are mainly for vocals, I just find annoying at best. I can't say as any soundmen have ever objected to my using the PJB onstage, and it makes me much happier with my sound.
