What the heck is my Eden amp doing? Sound bite attached

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I have an Eden WT 400 that is making an erratic loud static noise. It is independent of my master volume, and I can't predict when it will happen, or make it happen. I'm attaching a sound bite so you have an idea of what I'm talking about. The DI out is clean, so it has to be in the power section. I've sent it in to Eden, they couldn't recreate it, told me to change power cords, I did, worked pretty good, but now it has resurfaced. Any ideas?

could be anything. but one thing that you might try is cleaning the effects loop jacks. sometimes they can get corroded if you don't use them and cause that sound. try running a plug into them several times over and over, or get a can of contact cleaner and spray them.

Interesting, I'll try that tomorrow! Thanks JimmyM! You're one of the reasons why TB rocks! Also along with that noise, some of the EQ controls along with the master volume is a little dirty, what is the best way to clean those pots? I'll do some research as well...

Right jimmym...

that little step has helped many others with those similar amp issues. Easy to try and a quick fix if its that. If OP sent it to a shop, Eden or other, I'm surprised they didn't give it a good look around and clean it out for him. When I've taken am amp in they usually say they went ahead and blew it out, cleaned contacts and just some general maintenance while they had it open. Hope this fixes OP's issues.

BTW, awhile back jimmym and other TBers suggested I try Caigs DeOxit for my noisy effects pedals. I bought it, used it; pedals are totally noise free and remain that way. Good stuff.

ya, deoxit is a safe bet for pots. some contact cleaners will ruin pots but not deoxit. someone might want to back me up on this, but i believe the radio shack electronics cleaner won't ruin pots either.

thx for the very nice words!
