I recently acquired this Fender 1x15 combo amp and a made in Indonesia Fender Squire P-bass. What kind amp is this? I don't know anything about it. How many watts? Tube or solid state pre? Anyone have any info?

I'm not that familiar with Fender bass amps. Is this an old 'blackface'? I just don't know what it is? Looks like there might have been a badge of some sort in the middle of the black front there, but obviously that's missing now.

The first generation BXRs were knobs and pushbuttons only, like the 300. This is closest to a Frontman, but it doesn't match any Frontman amp either. The controls on this are simpler than any of the Frontman series. My conjecture about BXR was because this amp has a 15", which the Frontman didn't, but the BXRs did. I'm guessing it's some kind of short run transitional unit or prototype if it's a real Fender, which it looks like.

A; cheap!
Seriously, could it be one that came with one of their budget bass+amp starter packs?

The more I look at this, the curioser it gets.

Bet it's a counterfeit....

The number of controls, and the pot with a switch for the compressor - note LED above the control - don't match anything I know of. The power switch looks vaguely like 80s Fender. The only way to get a better idea of date and manufacturer might be to pop out the chassis, look for info on the circuit board(s), and get date codes off the pots or something.
That is, unless there's something written on the back panel.

Kinda reminds me of Montgomery Wards or sumpin'.

Now, I refuse to lose any sleep over this, and am not gonna waste any more time trying to solve the puzzle!
But I'll bet this is some cheapie import that somebody tried to dress up as a Fender.
Oh, and Fender very, very rarely used that grill cloth on any of their later model budget amps.
Y'all let me know when you figure it out!

BTW - I have a Bassman 120 combo from the early 80's and the input jack is on the left side of the face. Also, the tone controls are in about the same sequence and placement as my 120, so it might be from that era.
It is not a "Blackface', as that term is generally used for the Bassman heads of the 60's which pre-dated the silver panel amps.
Here's a photo of a Bassman 120..it's not an amp you see often:

And a closer shot of the writing.
The writing says 'Fender Musical Instruments, CBS Musical Instruments, A Division of CBS Inc, Fullerton, CA.'
Then that green label says '002'. Could that be a serial number?

I did the same thing that's why I started this thread. |

kinda demonstrates how CBS ultimately cheapened the brand. It really does look like some no-name import you'd find in a pawn shop or super discount store around that time.
Thankfully, I can sleep tonite!
