What are some good light weight gigging amps for $300-$400?

Sign in to disble this ad
The maximum i can spend on a decent gigging amp is $400... preferably something light, doesn't have to be though. Ive been waiting for the GK MB112 to come out... but it seems like its been pushed back every month... This will mostly be used for small bar gigs, and practices...

Thanks in advance

How about a used Markbass LMII? Im not an expert on the prices of the small amps, but it seems to me that most of them will be more than $400 new and usually, more than that used. Ive seen the used LMII's go in the $400's though so you may get lucky. Excellent amp.

I agree. Out of the amps I've tried, no question it's the gigging choice for $400. The Roland Cube 100 is a possibility too, and has many cool features the G-K lacks, but IMO the G-K sounds bigger and better.

My MB115 was under $400 from RMC Audio ($360 or so I think) - and it is very gig capable. It has me leaving my big bass rig at home most of the time now days. Pretty awesome for a 200watt amp, and alot easier on my bad back.

I use it for both electric and upright and it rocks, best combo amp I have had thus far for the price.

I think the OP is looking for a combo amp in that price range.

For around $200 you can find a used SWR 350 that will do 350 watts into a 4 ohm load and can handle 2 and 8 ohms. These are great and tough little heads. Don't let the "SWR is scooped" jive scare you. These can be set flat and have tons of solid features, including being very reliable. I love mine, and use it as my small gig/rehearsal head, though it was my main amp for years.

+1

I think you are right. Let's see if we can save him the trouble.

Get a good used head for ~$200 and a good used cab for ~$200. Then, the next time you have $400 add a top notch used cab. You now have a killer flexible rig. All you need is a backup head and you are done...LOL!

Obviously, GAS will set in, but going modular is way more cost effective, IMHO.

What are you using right now? Are you open to considering used gear?

I like this idea, too. Something usable now with room to grow or change.
