Thats a song for my band right there. I plan on having an emperor cab built for me. I'm leaning towards a 4x12. What speakers and configuration would you guys recomend and why? I want to move some air, have a lot of growl, but still be articulate.

This topic has been beat to death already. Read some of the speaker size links here: AMPS FAQ!! Info on OHMS, Allsize RIGS-OverUnderPowerCabs DIY TechTalk-Links

Pay attention to those who know what they're talking about like Bill Fitzmaurice, greenboy, and Duke LeJeune.

Josh,

Speaker tone can seldom be judged by the size of the drivers. You might ask what specific cabs or configurations that people have used that would qualify for you, but the paradigm of 10's equaling bright and tight and 15's equaling big low and slow is dead.

A properly designed cab that's been built for specific tone around specific speakers could have any size speakers in it.

They are right above, check old posts. I think I would want 10's, Normally i use 12s and 15s but i play indie, and folk punk which is not nearly that fast, and my head is bright so i like the mud 12s and 15s add.

I would say get lots of 10s. It will really matter most, i think, on what head your using as cabs can sound different depending.

But then you've missed the whole point. 12's and 15's don't necessarily add mud and 10's aren't necessarily 'fast' or bright.

For instance I had a Bergantino HT115 which was tight, punchy and hand plenty of content in the mids and highs so that it would have been comparable to what people hear in 10's. Or one might consider Acme 10's, which can have more low end extension than a 15 or 18.
