I was given an old Ampeg V-4 4-12 cab and it has two diferent sets of speakers in it. I was wondering if anyone can help me identify these. One set has the serial #12838G and the numbers 575789 under that. does anyone have a clue? I atached a couple of picts. In the center they have a apot that you can se down inside the dust cover.

The original speakers from my B25 had the same center - little mesh looking screen that you could see into.

From searching around the interwebs, 575 was speaker code for Heppner speakers which were commonly sold along with Hammond organs. What do the backs of the other speakers look like? Do they have standard ampeg markings?

I've been doing some more looking on the web and found a site that has speaker series numbers and it has the 12838G number as being a Peavy black widow speaker but it says it is a 12in. 4ohm speaker. I tested both speakers with my multimeter and they registered around 6.3 whitch tells me that they are 8ohm. I also went on a site called V-4.com and someone there had the same speakers and were also looking for their makers. someone on that site seemed to think they may be an old celestion because they had some that had the same spot on the dust covers but the celestions had a square magnet on the back. still not sure what they are but I'm still researching.

My speaker identification information indeed identifies the speaker, as coreyfyfe said - Heppner - and would indicate a manufacture date of the 9th week of 1978. I think that CTS or Emminence was the standard speaker used in Ampegs at that time period.

My guess is that its a Rola Celestion G12 chassis with a cts style wrapped cone kit in it, probably a nice bright guitar speaker if the glue is still holding on well.
I think its going to get smoked if you use it on bass, it may be as high as a whole 25 watts RMS power handling with a fundamental resonance as low as 80HZ?!!.
Flog them to a guitar player!

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm pretty shure the other speakers in this old cab are Rola's. Their numbers are #2857708 whitch suggest a Rola seaker. I posted a couple or picts of them. Its apparent to me that probably neither set of speakers are original because of the mismatch of screws used to install them, also the wireing inside was a joke. only one speaker had two wires hooked up correctly. I rewired them to an 8 ohm Diagram and put in new screws and they all work. I'm thinking of converting this cab to a bass cab, does anyone have any sugestions as to speakers. 300 watts is probably the max I would ever run in the cab, I just do a little playing on our worship team at church and one other band that plays Christian Rock (we write alot of our own songs since there isn't that many Christian Rock songs out there.)
