What Tuner Do You Use With A Class D Amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an old Rack Tuner that I am still using with my Genz Benz ShuttleMax and am looking for a more portable option. I can currently transport my entire rig in 1 trip, but the tuner hangs out an open pocket on my gigbag. I am considering a Boss-TU-3, but am wondering if you may have other innovative solutions to offer? I should mention that I do not want a rack, as that would automatically ad an extra trip.
Here is my current one trip transport system:

Genz Benz NeoX-212T (built in casters)

Genz Benz Amp Gig Bag Contains (over one shoulder):
-Genz Benz ShuttleMax 6.0
-ShuttleMax 5 way Footswitch
-Power Cord
-1 speakon speaker cable
-2 instrument cables

Warwick Gigbag contains (over both shoulders):
-Bass Guitar
-Micro Synth and power supply
-Allen Wrenches, Screwdrivers, Leatherman, Xtra Strings
-bass strap
-Polishing Cloth
-Tuner

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Cheers!

I use a Peterson Strobostomp 2 with my Shuttle Max and NEOX 212Ts. The main reason is that it has a built-in D.I. that I can use in case something happens to the amp in the middle of a gig.

The Pitch black seems like a good option. I like the easy to read display and the reviews are very good. I am, however intrigued by your DI/Tuner combo option. Could come in handy during an emergency.

i use a Peterson V-SAM and just stand it up on top of my amp.

it also works as a great 'bench tuner' for strobing as well.

I use a Planet Waves pedal which responds very quickly. Another thing that I use a lot, especially around the house, is a Korg AW-2G clip on. It would make a great stage tuner as well because you can turn down while tuning and leave it on the headstock all the time and there is nothing in your signal chain.

Obligatory call out for the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-200.

It works fine, and I had GC match a price I found and I got the tuner for $11. You still need a short patch chord.

While I do appreciate strobe tuners, I know that horn players are using the cheapest tuners. When I go play at jam sessions, I don't see expensive tuners. I think the inexpensive ones are adequate.

I use that, too. I have mine velcro'ed to the top of the amp. I plug in the amp, plug in my bass and I'm good to go.

I use a Peterson Strobostomp on my pedal board. Super reliable, has a DI in case of emergencies. A little hard to read at times if the lighting is weird.

If you want to spend a lot less money, the aforementioned Korg Pitch Black is pretty awesome. Awesome display on that one too. I might switch to that to save room on my pedal board.

Some small cheap thing I bought 15 years ago (Korg "Bass" I htink). Still works, I tune up before a gig then put it back in the gig bag. Beyond that I use my ears. Never have used a tuner on guitar. Guess it depends on how stable your basses are. My Zons hold tune really well - rarely have to touch it. The Rob Allen is a little more sensitive to the environment.

You guys are awesome!! Thank you for all the recomendations. I just picked up a Korg Pitch Black and think it fit my needs quite well. I will run a cable into it from my 'tuner out' jack and try setting it next to the head on top of my cab.
