What is a 'tweeter'?

I've heard peoople talking about tweets or tweters but I've got no idea what they are, could someone please explain?

A speaker designed for high-frequency signals...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tweeter

In a bass cabinet, a tweeter may be used in conjunction with other speakers. The input signal will pass through a crossover which routes the high frequencies of the signal to the tweeter, and the rest to the primary speaker(s). Not all bass cabs have tweeters.
