What is up with Peavey? Lame bass offerings as of late...

Sign in to disble this ad
Have you looked at their site recently? The bass amp and cab selection is pretty lame. They have a new cheapo line ($299 for a 410 cabinet?), and under the Tour series, only a 810. The old school TVX line, now made in china, still survives. But where are the meat and potatoes now? Where are cabs with 12" drivers? Where are the Neos? Where are the class D mini amps? Seems to me that they are confused.

Anyone know of anything down there?

Aside from the low-end and weird 1.5 height full width amps that were shown months and months ago...where are the goods?

I've been wondering what happened to the US customer Cirrus part of their site.(???)

I was shocked to see that they've discontinued most of their Tour line. I still see the heads popping up from time to time in stores (I'm a proud Tour 700 user), but the cabs are gone for some reason. I really loved the Tour 215 and wanted to pick one up when I had some extra cash, but looks like that wont be happening.

Yep, the 2 and 3. What more does one need? (If you can't afford a SVT)

Yup, VB3 is still available if I understand right. Their heads seem to still be on the market, Tour 450, 700, VB2, VB3. Just their cabs seem to not be available anymore.

I remember reading something during NAMM that they are coming out with a new line of amps called the Headliner series, and they will have a new line of cabs to go along with those, don't quote me on that, though.

I believe the headliner cabs are up, not the amps. That's the "weird" head I referenced in my original post. Really low-end stuff, $299 for the head, $299 for a 410 cab.

Okay, looks like I'm right.

New for 2010 are the Headliner amplifiers, and cabs (2X10, 4X10, 1X15), new VB series cabs to go along with the 8X10 (1X15, 2X10, 4X10, 2X15). The 15" equipped cabs will come with the black widow speakers.

Looks like they just discontinued the tour series to make room for the VB series.

So is the headliner a 2 space or 1 space rack space? I don't understand why they would make another two space amp if they did. If it's just a 1 space, I may look into buying it as a backup for my Tour 700 once I start gigging again.

If you can afford a VB3, you can afford an SVT.

It's neither! it's a 1.5 height rack unit. I have never, ever seen such a weird size. Full width, but not full 2-space height. I'm not interested in low end stuff, I'd like to see some more high end stuff.

A US SVT is $600+ more than a VB-3 (US)

We've got some stuff in the works.

Since I'm a CUP follower I'll word this carefully: I feel confident in the success of the Headliner because the price is not indicative of it's performance . There.

If you're gonna spend 18 large on an amp, doesn't it makes sense to spend the extra $600 and get the best. Or is it your contention that the VB3 IS the best?

I've been a die hard peavey guy for 18 years. Only when the big P didn't sell products I wanted (a mini amp and lightweight 2x12) did I stray.

So, at $300, the headliner will sell a ton at the usual Musician Friend and GC level. But I'm looking for the next T-Max. The killer pro-capable amp.

I look forward to seeing things emerge. But killing all but one lower-end 410 seems odd to me.

I don't know about you but $600 is not chump change to me. $600 is half way into a nice cab. $50-100 is nothing at that price range but $600 is. I am not saying that Peavey is the best you can buy, but I will say that after getting my VB-2 I have NO gas for a SVT. I am very happy with mine.

$1800 is huge money to me and if I spend that kind of jack on an amp and later find myself wishing I had a Heritage I think I'd be more than a little depressed.

I stand by my original point, which is to say if I can come up with ( Realistically, close to 2k with tax) for a good amp, I can come up with the extra 6 bills for an unbeatable amp.

That being said, there is a guy right now on St. Louis CL selling a US made SVT classic and an 8X10 cab for $1400.
