What will the Legend B810 give me?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up an Ampeg 810e that's in pretty rough shape, but it still sounds great. I believe the year of the cab is an 01. Unfortunately the bottom right speaker is blown, and I'm going to need to replace it.

I was thinking about the B810 because of all of the great reviews on TB. How will this speaker sound in this cab? Should I buy 4 of the Legends and replace the whole bottom or top half of the cab?

Also, where can I find the best prices on the speaker?

Thanks!

The Legend will sound different from the other ones. If I were you I'd recone the broken one.

They sell eminence speakers at Q Components. Good price on the B810. People often replace them in pairs.

The problem with re-coning is that Ampeg uses an OEM speaker in the 810E. Chances are you will get something close but not the exact kit. Loud customer service might be able to help you (parts@loudtechinc.com or 1-800-258-6883).

You can buy an Ampeg replacement speaker from Orange County Speakers in the US.

I swapped 4 of my speakers from a 70s 810 with Legend B810s and couldn't really hear a difference, once I swapped all 8 it was a whole new cab. So in my opinion replacing one of your speakers with a B810 won't have any significant impact.

I'd at least replace the pair that share the same chamber, can leave the other 6 alone.

If you happen to have one of the dark sounding 810's, I'd put the b810's in the top chamber and move the others down, keep the extra one as a spare in case you burn another one of the original 6 someday.

swapping pairs

I have a similar situation. I just need to replace 1 speaker in my 8x10e. If i have the oem 86-032-01 speaker in the same chamber with a legend b810 will it hurt anything other than the sound?

I mean for temporary purposes. Can't afford the matched one yet. Doubt it would hurt the sound that much. Just air value in the sealed cab. I'm ignorant!! = P

The original speaker didnt blow. They use epoxy to adhese the magnet to the basket and that came apart on me. i refuse to buy more of these made in vietnam speakers. otherwise known as 86-032-01. at least the legend b810 are usa made.

I don't think there would be any risk in replacing one. Eventually you could just swap both so that chamber had 2 B810s.

Just as an update, I really love my B810 loaded cab. They are fantastic speakers, only thing better would be having 2 B810 loaded cabs.

The speakers are actually made by Eminence China and they sound great to my ears. I like them a lot better than the American speakers SLM was using. Don't know how they compare to the B810's but I have no problem with them.
