What would you do? Amp decision!!! Hey guys, I'm playing for fun now, no more gigging, i have 3 sons and just went back to university for the next 3 years. I'm playing my friend's old ibanez bass. I like it but he is asking it back. I'm practicing thru my ampeg ba108 I need to buy a bass and a new amp because i'm jamming with a drummer once in a while I have 2 options Number 1: i buy an ampeg ba112 and a fender american special precision bass Or Number 2: i buy a fender bassman tv twelve (for 750$ new) and a squier classic vibe 60's precision bass What's the best option. A better bass or a better amp? Thanks for your help |
Better bass. IMHO and the BA112 is not a bad little combo. |
Option number one!!!! |
From these two options, I would choose the American Precision and Ampeg amp. |
Better bass. That little Ampeg combo really isn't bad. It's not a head turner, but it gets the job done. |
Option 3, classifieds, gigable rig and decent preloved bass, you know you'll want to play out sometime. Aren't those squire classics supposed to be pretty darn good for the money? |

There is a promotion with no interest at my local shop so i will buy new... So i think i'll go with the ampeg an the american special... Imjust want to say that the fender bassman tv twelve as such a great tone, that's why i hesitate so much |
You will bond more with the stick than the amp anyway ;) |
I would do Option #2. I don't know if that has any relevance to you, though. |
Good comment! |
get a used Stingray or any used G&L, then get a used amp and a good DI box. You could get a Sansamp DI. Cant go wrong. dont buy a Fender. It seems that people buy Fenders because they say Fender on them. Musicman and G&L are the best sounding for the price. |
