Best sound, but damn heavy : Crest CA series
Best all round : QSC PLX

In my humble opinion of course.

Being budget minded, I opted for the QSC GX series. Not too heavy, great warranty and customer support, dependable.

They aren’t designed to do [edit to correct] 2-ohms, but I'm pretty sure that’s how they got them down to a very affordable price.

I’ve got two GX5s, one for my bigger bass rig, and one powering the band PA.

I had a Stewart World 1.2 about 10 years ago, but can't remember how it sounded.. but so far I think I might be leaning toward a Crest CA-4.. what do you guys think of the World 1.2

They're designed to do 4 ohms per channel, but not less than that.

I like the QSC stuff, but I have great exp with carvin.

DCM2000L 14 lbs of clean, reliable, lightweight power at a great price.

The World 1.2 is a great amp for a great price... great size and weight, too. The only downside is that there's no fan. For many this isn't a problem, but some users who push it to the limit said they had to install a fan in their rack to keep the amp from shutting down.

Unfortunately my volume needs are pretty extreme. I really love the Stewart World 2.1... it easily outperforms the Crown XTi I recently got. The Crown has nearly identical power specs, but I'm guessing the input isn't as sensitive. So, the Crown stays in my secondary gig rack.

The best power amp I've ever owned is the Crest Ca9. Sadly, it was too heavy for my 50-year-old back. But good grief... one channel was enough even in situations where I'd bridge the Stew. The Ca9 is rated for more watts, and also has greater input sensitivity.

Matamp slave. Probably a custom order, but anything ordered direct is custom.

When I was using a pre, was happy with Carvin. What do I know though, we were totally satisfied running the PA with a Behringer for years. The amp's still working, but the band's not.

Oh, I knew that, I just mistyped.

Fat lotta help I was promoting an amp I like, eh?

And as for the comment that the fans aren’t exactly quiet, I can’t imagine that little hum being of any significance at all in a live situation.

Crest CA9 is fantastic, and it also has the added benefit of when you need "more weight, less reps" in your workout.

Play a gig with the Crest CA9, and you'll probably have a better poweramp than the sound guy.

I highly recommend Carvin.

I had a DCM 1000 (this was one of the heavier ones, not their light weight ones which were not yet in production). Bridged it to run a single 700W 8 ohm 4x10 cab (SWR) at 700W. It really sounded good.

IIRC their amp indicated .03% THD while almost everything else I looked at indicated .10%.

I have a pre/power rig that I am very happy with. It's a Kern pre into a QSC PLX 3602 stereo power amp. It provides around 750 watts RMS into each channel at 8 ohms speaker load per channel. One nice feature is the selectable on/off high pass filter set at 33hz (which I always leave in the "on" position).

It is also an efficiently designed amp. It only draws 7.7 amps of current at 1/8 power pink noise (typical operating power). So you don't have to worry about popping 15amp circuit breakers from the wall source.

21 pound amp. Plenty of ooomph. Good job QSC!

Me happy.
