What was your starter rig?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I am new to this forum as well as to playing bass. I was curious what peoples starter rigs were or are. Please post what equipment (bass, amp, string, etc) as well as pictures of your rigs.

Oh ya, this is one fantastic site, I will post pics and specs of my rig soon.

first bass: aarbor explorer shaped bass (in neon orange) with a p- pick up vol/tone.

-thought it made me look like r. savage from def lep!

sold it to some guy i went to high school with. so i could buy a active fretless ibanez musician bass.

first amp: a fender sidekick 35. 35 watt solid state 1x12 bass amp.

great bedroom/starter rig.

this amp eventually died from too many dr. peppers being spilt on it.

replaced by a 70s silverface bassman 50 piggybacked on a fender 2x15 bass cab (diagonal speaker type). awesome sounding!

My first bass rig consisted of an Ibanez SRX300 bass and an Ibanez SW65 amp. The bass had whatever strings came stock on an SRX.

An early 80s(?) Hondo P-bass copy. It's the original Hondo line, not even the Hondo II, so I think it's Japanese. I love it.
They supposedly came with Dimarzio pickups, but it sounded pretty lifeless to me so I put in Duncan Quarter Pounds. I also swapped out the rusted, locked-up bridge with my Jaguar Bass' original one (after this picture)

The lighting hides all the dents. I'm pretty sure you could kill a man with it and still be in tune.

It came with a Crate 15w amp...I don't have many fantastic things to say about that though.

Bass: a 35 y.o. Japanese P-bass copy (Aspen) that I still play lo these many five years later.

"Amp": lead sleds and P.A. speakers from my frontman past life, using random rack components as a preamp. It sounded like butt and I blew one of the speakers.

Well, I'm not sure if it really counts as a rig, but a Ampeg USA B2 combo and a knock-off jazz. My first REAL rig came later, and is the one I currently use:

62RI Pbass/Gibson Zebrabird>>Fuzz Face>>Dunlop Bass Wah>>Bassman 300>>1x15

When I was in high school, I had an SVT and 8x10 that 'came' from the school. I never got a good explanation of how it got to me, through a friend, but it did. I used it for a few years along with a Yamaha BB series bass.

My very first rig was a Japanese copy of a Hofner beatle bass played through a Kalamazoo Bass 50 amp.

This was some time before tectonic plate shifts formed the Rocky Mountains.
