for slap is better a 2x10 instead of 1x15. |

| | | | Whose tone do you want to emulate?
MusicMan bass and GK head with scooped mids will give you a Flea-like tone, Ibanez bass with Mesa Boogie head will give a Fieldy sound if you drop the low mids.
Basically... drop the low mids.
You also want a decent cab which can produce the high mids with clarity to get the overtones and clack, etc to come through nicely.
GK amps usually have decent headroom, so they shouldn't "bottle out".
IME, YMMV, etc.. I am not that experienced and don't slap, so take it with a pinch of salt. Probably the best advice I can give is try to find a local store that will allow you to crank it a bit and try a few options. The brands I see most associated with slap are GK, Ampeg and Mesa. |

Lots of low, lots of high, not much mids.

The compressor will help even out your slapping and help limit those big signal spikes when you get carried away. It will also help tighten up your slap tone, but you may experience a slight loss in the deeper lows if you compress the signal quite hard.
Also note that sometimes when slapping hard/aggresively on an active bass with a low setup, it is often the onboard preamp & pickups that get overdriven before the signal even reaches your amp...

But I guess that's another question!

or just get the SWR marcus miller preamp with a light weight poweramp and a pair of his sig sealed 410 SWR cabs... thats pretty much made for slap
