What's the best bang for about $600?

Combo? Head and cab(s)? 4x10 or 2x12? I'm a real noob at this stuff and could really use some help. I'd like to get something powerful enough to use for live playing, basically something I can get and have for a while without having to upgrade in a couple years.

So far I've checked out the Acoustic stacks, Fender Rumble 350 2x10 and some various cabs.

212 would be good, combo is probably where you are at for new. Could start with a GK MB210 (2X10 350 watts), add a 410 or 212 later (for 500 watts). The G-K MB212 (2X12 with 500 watts) would likely cover for a long time but you can't add any cabs later.
Though about used?

Yes, have thought about used, I'm just not 100% sure what I should be looking for size/power wise.

300 watts with a 2X15, 4X10, or 2X12 minimum to get you by for the near future. Peavey and Hartkie are good values on the used head market, as is G-K. Remember on someones sig here they are selling a G-K 700RB II for 375. That 700RB II could be the last head you'll need and leaves 225 for a cab?

Here ya go:
Gallien Krueger Neo II 2 space airhead Cabinet F/S

GK 700RB-II $375.00 SHIPPED and GLX 410 175 + shipping

Not a "personal" fan of the GLX cab that is for sale with the 700RB II. But there you go.

(Hell if I had 375.00 I would buy it! The 700RB II is a great sounding workhorse.)

I would go GK MB210 with the MB210E or whatever it's called speaker cab.

500 watts, 410 inch speakers, two horns and plenty of ventilation

that's my next upgrade is the extension cab.

standard answer: 300-500 watt head paired with at least a 4x10, 2x12, or 2x15.
