Whats a better cab for my GB Streamliner, Epi UL410 or Berg HT322?

Sign in to disble this ad
All opinions welcome both 4 ohms? I like a tight and punchy tone and I feel my avatar 212 neo doesn't produce that with the STL, I love the warmth of my gb so I want to try a new cab and both of these are available at an affordable price locally. All opinions accepted.

IIRC in one of the Streamliner threads Hasbeen or Agedhorse mentioned that a lot of testing was done with an Epi UL410.

I'm going for the Epi cab it's lighter and I think I'm more of a 410 guy.

Not sure how EQ'able these would be with the Streamliner.

I'd vote for the HT322 as it is probably not as mid-shy as the UL410.

If I could pick any cab to match-up with one of these amps it would either be a Bergantino NV610 or a pair of 210's like AE210 or HS210 or Uber210 and use either one (set on a milk crate or other riser device) or a vertically stacked pair depending on the volume needed for the gig.

It's all about tone.
The streamliner love 15" speakers.
I use a Schroeder custom 2x15 cab, and it kills for that old school tone.
Also used a Berg. NV610, great classic rock tones.
A Berg. 4x10 would be nice to.

One of the best match for the Streamliner, IMO is their Uber15.

Epi cab...

may not be the best cab matchup for this head. And I think quite a few mentioned this in those Streamliner threads. I had a big issue in one room with UL410, ST900, P5 w/flats. All sorts of boom I could not clear up. I've not used the head with that cab/P5 anymore.

I have used two RS210's, GB Neox 212T and recently bought a TB153. Those rigs all sound very nice so far. I almost went for a UB410 but wanted to try one of the 3 way designs. Though many say the TB153 is similar in volume to a 410, I can't say I've experienced that yet. I feel my 410 cabs have been louder, deeper, cleaner just not with the ST900 head but my other amps, Markbass LMII, F1 and a pre/pwer amp.

I found a Ht322 recently in a local ad for a good price but I think that cab is quite heavier than any of my other cabs I own. Which is why I sold my much loved 410XLT, I think it mighta killed with the ST900 head. So I'd recommend the 322 for tone, not sure how heavy that cab is but I think its pretty heavy. Some here say they do fine with their ST900 and UL410 or UL210 cabs. I find my modern basses 55-02D/MTD (modded) KZ5 do work well with UL410/St900 but I'm using the P5 more these days. See if you can run your ST head thru both cabs to see what you think.

The HT322 is right around 85 lbs.
It has a slight bit of mid-scoop going on, but not as much as the UL410 and has a tighter low end than the UL410 as well.
The HT322 came with some nice wheels, so if you can stay mostly on paved, level surfaces when moving it, you can put stuff on top and roll it.
I used to carry mine in the back seat of my 2002 Honda Accord -- not too bad, but not as easy as some of the neo cabs around.
The HT322 really lights up when you hit it with some power (I used 1600W), but I would assume the SL900 would be fine with it power-wise.

I am considering the ht322 even though it's 20 lbs heavier the tone might be worth it.

I own an Aggie DB410 and I've tried a UL410, and they sound radically different. The Aggie is mid-focused with a tight low end, while the UL410 is scooped and puts out huge booty. My point is that the latter is probably not a great match with the Streamliner (which I've heard has gobs of low end) and that--as Bill FM and others here have said many times--speaker configuration doesn't necessarily correlate with tone.

IME, the UL cabs have a bit of a scooped sound whereas the HT has a great midrange voice.

As GregC said, that head with a wide. low UL410 might be too much of a good thing.

Do tell.

I've been running two Berg HT112ER cabs with my Streamliner 900 with no complaints.

I do think some of the Genz Cabs are worth a try as well. Though I have not had the oppertunity to play any of them.

I would get a high quality, 15" 3-way cab, if I was looking for a single cab rig. You might want to consider the Avatar TB153 and save the B212 as a backup.

Holy cow the bergie ht322 just made me fall in love with my streamliner, mids to spare low bottom everywhere and crisp highs. I am in love!
