What's with the complaints on "woofy" new GK cabs?

I've read several posts now that talk about the new GK cabs as being "woofy". Can someone expand on this? Is it a construction problem or just another one of those "it sounds this way to my ears versus yours" cases? Specifically, I've read about this being an issue with the 2x10s and 2x12s.

I haven't heard anyone describe GK as "woofy". I'm assuming they mean that there is a ton of low end. I have been using GK for many years and find them to have great range. Very full, lots of clarity and punchy.

Well, not to refute you, but I read a post about someone who was doing work to the inside of his MB212 because it was "too woofy". You think that's what he was talking about?

Could get into a semantics debate, but "woofy," to me anyway, means lots of ringing down in the bass region. A bass "wash," as opposed to tight definition. A quick peek inside such a cab should provide clues as to why it's happening. 1) Pull one driver. 2) Obtain quick peek. 3) Raise index finger in air. 4) Exclaim, "Ah!"

This assumes that the drivers are reasonably well-matched to the cab. If you don't have that, then you can forget the rest.

Some of the new cabs in the MB combo line are not lined with any dampening material, or sufficiently braced. They have been called " boomy " for this reason. Some like that sound, some don't. There is a huge thread on this issue.

I'm going to search for it, but any chance you could link me to it?

EDIT: Found it. Thanks for the heads up!
