What's the deal with Cab size combinations?

Why are some considered "Bad", like the 1x15 - 4x10 setup? Why do people say not to mix cab sizes?

Did you even TRY to read any of the existing threads about this?

Let's put the ball in your court: what's good about it?

Kind of a newb here, but i thought it was good cause you have the 4x10 for mid high range and the 1x15 for lows.I am wrong?

Yep.

Not to be too much of a smartass but it's all in the sticky above there ^^ as well as several threads. If you still don't get it, come back and ask about what you don't understand.

its not like theres a big conspiricy behind cab companys to do this. its a good idea to keep sizes consistant aswell as power.

bill is a expert on this kinda thing

1x18 is ideal. It rolls off every thing you don't want and kicks ass with what you do. 1x15 is OK, but 10" speakers don't reproduce bass frequecies at all......

I had a 1x15 with a 4x10 setup for years and it sounded fine. I recently switched back to two 4x10 cabs. It's really a matter of personal preference.

it takes a different amount of power to push the 1x15 than it does the 4x10, basicly you'd be overpowering one cab to get the other to the volume you want it at. also, the different sizes dont do better (or worse) jobs of producing lower (or higher) frequencies, its all about how much air a cab moves

that being said, play what you want.

Six, count 'em, six EV 30" drivers, accurately reproduces the SF Bay Area 1989 Earthquake to within 0.5 Richter of the original 7.0

(btw, not my home stereo rig, just dreamin' )

the frightening thing to me is that EV actually published DIY plans for these things. IIRC it was a big old sealed box. And I think they may have actually marketed a home version of this thing called the "Emperor" or something like that back in maybe the 60s/early 70s
