What's up with Ampeg gear on backorder?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been trying to give Ampeg my hard earned money for an svt 2-pro for the past FOUR months, but nobody seems to have it in stock. I've been trying to get it since October, and now i see that it's on backorder until march... I've been trying to get it through many of the big stores that would honor an extended warrantee... Don't they want my money?

Stores don't make amps. As for the story on Ampeg's end, welcome to the world of global outsourcing, a recession and curious decisions in the corporate boardroom.

.....and an expensive rack mount tube amp that probably isn't selling well for them in this economy. They are moving the PF amps like hotcakes because they are light and cheap.

When times get tight you don't stockpile slow sellers. You wait until you get enough orders to make it worthwhile to do a production run.

Amazon has them in stock:

Amazon.com: Ampeg SVT-2PRO Pro Series Rack Mountable Tube Bass Amplifier Head, 300 Watt: Musical Instruments

Same with newegg/proaudioland:

Newegg.com - Ampeg SVT-2 PRO 300w All Tube Bass Head with 3 band EQ

Not sure if they meet your extended warranty criteria though. Either way, at that price, I'd probably find a used one (for around half price) and consider the cost savings your extended warranty.

Hardly a curious decision, and has zip to do with outsourcing. The 2 Pro sells but not like the CL or VR, so its production runs are fewer. As a matter of fact, it's probably been close to 5 years since I've gotten a 2 Pro as a backline rental. It's always the VR or CL, and most of the time it's the CL. But as Corey demonstrated, you can still get one.

If you are from Montana you could likely order one from axe music in edmonton alberta. I see they have one on their website for $100 cheaper than than the others listed and it shows they have one in stock.
