What's wrong with my GK 1001RBII?

I just came in & turned it on to practice (just like last night) & I've got nowhere near the volume I should have. Checked all connections & cords, checked another bass for comparison. ***, I've had this thing less than two years & don't run it hard. Any ideas? I went through all the obvious stuff.

Recently, another forumite had a similar problem with a Markbass. Turned out to be a faulty power cord, of all things.

Are you sure the "pad input" toggle isn't engaged? Sorry; had to ask. It could be any number of things, but these are two possibilites.

Spray DeOxit in all the inputs then work a plug in and out.

I use it with the -14 pad engaged in my room. That's not it in this case. Even with the button out it's not near where it should be in terms of volume. It should be shaking the room with it cranked. I normally just crack the volume pots on my bass barely open to get practice volume. The thing is, it just sits there for practice until it goes out for a gig.

I'll get the spray tomorrow & try it. Seems reasonable. Any known issues with this head otherwise?

Is your sound distorted or crackling or anything? Is it the exact same tone you've always had but just quieter?

I have the 700RB-II, so I know the head quite well (yours has about ~100W more than mine). Yes, yours must be quite loud ordinarily. I've had mine for five years without a single hitch, but I have read threads here about GKs failing or having significant problems, so who knows? It's not like I've seen an inordinant amount of threads about this, and it could happen to any head, really.

A long while back (well before talkbass existed), I was advised by a person I respect to never spray any type of deox (or anything, really) directly into an input jack, so take that advice with a grain of salt. The dexoit kit I've had for years came with both a spray and a small tube of red oil. It might be better to put a small dab of the oil on a cord input plug and work it around that way, but I don't see that being the most likely solution.

I'd lean toward the power cord, but trying simpler solutions is always a good idea. I'm assuming that you removed all extraneous factors such as pedals, etc? Do you have some access to another head somewhere to verify the speaker cab is not the problem?

Sorry if you've tried these; you indicated that you tried all the obvious stuff, but that doesn't tell me what you've actually tried or consider obvious.

No crackling or anything other than low output. I've isolated it from everything else in the rack, & changed all cords, as well as using another bass & cab. I cleaned all connections. No joy. I guess it needs professional help.

Call GK and talk to em about it, if you had it less than 2 years it should be under warranty, if you bouhgt it new
But be advised that if you talk to em and they tell you to email them and they will get to you, they won't-- cuz they've already gave me that run around twice ,
get all the info from them while your on the phone
