who has the sweetest sounding low watt combo

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Crate now that works but its plain sounding,, i like those presence and contour knobs that will make a passive bass sound active but they add that sweetness to the sound (like a brand new set of your favorite strings)

anyway I want to get a decent combo amp for my living room and somethign with versitility, I never played one but the Phil Jones one with the 2 little speakers caught my eye, I played through an eden before that I liked,, someone on our CL is selling a EBS but again I never played one..

my style is rock or alternative pick or fingers (not a slapper ) and I don't need to crank the amp, i also use everything form stingrays to P-basses,, with the P being my favorite sound right out of the gate.

Gotta say those new little Ampeg practice combos are sweet. BA108 and BA110.

I was going to say BA112, so if those BA108 and BA110 combos are anything like it, only smaller, I agree they would be great for what Tajue17 is looking for.

I had a B100 I think but it was the 100W 1x15 combo but a big cab.. I have ampeg heads and they are nice turned up but never tried anything small by them,, 12" speaker would be max with 10 or 8 being better for me though.

has anyone tried this ashdown

SWR Workingman's 12 is pretty sweet sounding (you'll just have to take my word for it, 'cause I've got nothing for you to hear! ), and it's certainly low-Watt. They can be had for pretty cheap, too - bonus!

The phil jones stuff is fantastic!!! I would not hesitate to buy any of his products. Maybe another good alternative to that might be the MarkBass minimark. I have heard good things about those amps as well.

I thought the Ampeg BA112 sounded pretty good for it's size. However it was only good for low volume applications and it wasn't too far off in price from my GK MB115. The Acoustic stuff isn't bad either from what I've demoed in the stores.

I haven't, but honestly, for $100, I don't see how you can beat that BA108. Won't amaze you with its extreme power, but it puts out quite a bit for 25w into a single 8" with a goodly amount of low end content, which is often lacking in practice amps with a single 8".
