I found this recording of Alice in Chains... I REALLY like this tone!! Who would have an idea of how to get it?? I know Mike Inez uses Spector and Warwick basses (yes he uses both), Ampeg SVT amps (SVT 2 heads, 810/118 cabs)... How "Would?" one EQ their amp/bass to get this sortof tone??

Dont turn this into a big debate over what equipment you THINK he uses... he might have been using a different setup here but Ive watched videos were hes stated that hes used that kind of setup since his Ozzy days...

PS Yes I know! Im a tone hound!!

The sound

The signal should first be run into a Sansamp PSA 1.1, then into the SVT. Nice it of Sansamp crunch into the front end would work nice.

Cut the mids on a preamp going into the amp, then all bass and highs.

Big AiC fan here, his tone is to die for. I agree with tehbassist about cutting the mids.

Cant wait to see them in September.

Vt-bass, any relatively smooth amp, play with a pick

This.
Take a DI to FOH(EQ for pure bass tone) and mic the 8x10 as IT is what is screaming with bite/cut/dirt/what-U-want.

You can get this sound with fingers and good callouses on the tips and extreme EQ(Geddy does similar). And an SVT in its sweet dirty spot.
Nickelback and Staind use a very similar picked tone, it works very well for bringing the B string out in a mix.

You can probably get it out of a Line6BPXTLive tweaking the SVT clone to its extreme....
