Just up front i'd like to say, i love my Ampeg! This is my second Ampeg and I really love it... I mean really!, like, I'd apply for a marrage license if my wife wouldn't mind an amp in bed with us.
Ok, now the bad. I've had a pf 500/115 combo since april. I have had no problems with it at all till last thursday, after playing with my worship team for about an hour, the fault light came on and sound went dead. The gain was at about 1'oclock, volume at 12:00. Ultra low off, bass at about 2:00, compressor at about 9:00. The head was cool to the touch. No stage lights, very moderate temprature in the sanctuary. I turned the amp off, lowered gain and vol. turned back on. No fault light untill i played something then instantly the fault light came on. Tried the off and on a couple more times with the same results. Packed it up and took it home. The next day the same thing. I tried different basses, different cables, but it faulted as soon as played something.
The pic is to break up my novel. The next day i took it to the store i bought it from, Portland Music Co., i showed them what was wrong but the amp worked just fine. We took turns trying to get the fault light on with no success. They were playing my head through their pf 115 cab. So I went home to get my cab and bass thinking maybe the problem was my gear, even though it had done it for my with everything different. By the time I got back, they told me "its working just fine". We walk over to it and the fault light had come on just sitting. So sunday, i used it for church, vol and gain very low as i didnt have a backup amp. After about 2 hours, 30 minutes playing and hour on at idle. The fault light came on.
The music store has been very helpful, they are sending it for repair, (which is what the ampeg rep told them to do). And letting me use a loaner amp. I am worried the repair shop won't try to duplicate the problem and i'll get it back with no work done. I emailed ampeg with a description of what happened and this is the reply i got back...
