After many years as a live and studio engineer and bass player, I came to the only conclusion, I want a sealed cab with a 15" for my small gigs.
I don't want to make one myself, I know my limits...
But I can't seem to find any manufacturers making them anymore.
Nowadays it is all about max power and earth shaking results.
It is actually quiet funny considering the number of bands who are really playing the big stages...
So if you know someone, somewhere that has a small work shop and makes good cabs, let me know...
Thanks

Things like the 3015LF based 15/6 designs are certainly capable of a lot of output at quite low frequencies, but they're not obtrusively large and work wonders on small to mid-sized stages. Big stages are absolutely not required to see the benefit of these types of rigs, but they would be equally at home on a large stage.

Ampeg (multiple options)
Ashdown (couple options)
Bergantino (NV series)
Hartke (HyDrive 410 & 810)
Markbass (CL series)
Reeves (4x10)
SWR (Marcus Miller 4x10)

Dale currently offers two sealed cab models both reasonably priced in black tolex.
1x18" + 1x8" two way and a 1x15" + 5" (irrc)
Cheers,

SWR (Marcus Miller 4x10) | Thanks for the answer Tombowlus but, currently, for sealed 1 15" there is only Ashdown which I am not sure but all others are vented, sometimes rear ports.
I think old school amps or the new ampeg will be my answer.
Thanks guys

Tighter lows... that's it? |

Tighter lows... that's it? | what I think will happen, and hope for, is a slightly slower transient but a more naturally compressed low end. The output will also be lessened as air moved= db. But who cares about the hey?

Oli | Ampeg has the PF115, which is sealed. The (discontinued) Berg NV215 is another option, though as you would expect from the name, it's a 2x15.

| | Hey, what does this knob do? | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: New Hampshire | | | You don't necessarily have to purchase an already-sealed cab. You can often find used, incorrectly-ported cabs from the pre-Thiele-Small era which, when converted to sealed, and of course braced and lined, too, offer an internal volume that can work very well with some modern drivers. |

Cab size requirement changes if you go from ported to sealed or vice versa. And not every speaker works well in a sealed cab... |

Sealed cabs are much more forgiving than other designs. |
