Who's the particle physicist philosopher who designed SKB rack cases?

Sign in to disble this ad
At practice yesterday we were having fun and getting more than a little too loud. When I goosed my M9 into LDS 15-6 I heard a rattle. After a bit of investigation I found it was a vibrating latch, which remains attached to the rack after the ends are removed. It seems obvious to me that latches should attach to the lids, leaving the rack case clean for the gig........but what do I know, I'm just the end user

Any recommendations on a rack case without this design flaw (or a 'splanation of why I may be mistaken)? Otherwise I may need a foam pad between case and cab.

Thanks. Mini-rant over

I have seven SKB rack cases sitting in view right now. The latches are on the lids of all of 'em.

Sounds like maybe you actually got sold a Gator case? The ones here are 1-15 years old.

My bad-it IS a lame Gator case. Mods please delete this thread as I don't know how to change the title.
I'll get an SKB.

carry a roll of masking tape with you and tape those suckers down. Way cheaper than a new case

Hi.

While cheap ABS plastics have a multitude of exellent applications, making instrument- or rack cases out of it aren't one of them. IMHO only as always .

My Gator cases have the latches on the case rather than the lids. I've never noticed them rattling before, but I have a compulsion to always lock the handle/turn-key to one side or the other after taking the lids off. I much prefer the Gator cases to comparable SKB ones. I'm surprised you're having such an issue with the latches vibrating/rattling, especially given that we're using the same cab (LDS nEarful 15/6).

I never had the issue before (neither case nor rig is new ) but perhaps I've discovered the inherent resonant frequency of gator latches BTW the cab is rock solid (even mounted on a stand) with the head on top and there's no other unwanted vibration at all. Everything ELSE in the room (including all band members' sternal bones) was vibrating, however.

I just found these skb cases for a really reasonable price. I wanted a shallow case for my LMIII and I'm gonna use my present Gator 2 space for the new B2RE! MF beat the price and I'm getting one shipped for $57.50.... pretty decent price.

I have both standards and one of the shallow X-racks, both in 4 space configurations. The standard one is way hardier case. I like the shallow X for carrying studio stuff that's not in a gigging environment. I will say that the back panel is pretty awful and actually doesn't give you that much clearance if you have something racked high or low in it.

The latches on my Gator is on the lids. I just bought it a month ago so maybe they've changed it?
