So I've been looking to buy/build a cab for awhile now and I'm very interested in a fearful or barefaced. My question is how are barefaced so light? Besides using neo drivers I found that they use "dual density plywood". I couldn't find any info on it so does anyone know what it is and if its commercially available? Thanks!
I'm pretty much looking for the lightest but still strong plywood to get weight close to the barefaced compact any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also looked at zaclites composite build but that looks to involved for me.
Thanks for the quick replies. It seems that the 11/32" arauco isn't in stock at the lowes near me. Whats better about it just the build quality? Is it lighter or anything?
It's got a nicer good side (A vs. B) for painting / duratexing and is a smidgen lighter than most pine ply. Just about as tough too. It's worth a drive in my opinion.
The cheaper B/C ply also tends to have uneven width plys which can make working with it a little tough.

Rpsands, would a cab like you're describing be safe to sit on, put a heavy rack on, etc? If it's a given that it'll be well-braced, are there any downsides for building cabs from a good quality 3/8"?
I sat on mine pretty regularly but I wouldn't plop my fat butt down on it. I weigh about 220 and the cab didn't creak at all when sitting on it. I'd not hesitate to stick a 60lb rack on it. I believe someone from the forums owns my old cab now and has a Basslite in it or something. CrockettNj maybe? I forget.
You need to brace it every 6" or so if not a little more.
