Why is the Bergantino AE discontinued?

Sign in to disble this ad
I think the AE 410 which I have is a very good made and sounding cabinet. I see he is going with the HD line instead. They look similar to there HS. Getting away from the NEO. Anybody know why?

Because of issues with the neodymium supply and pricing.

Apparently the vast majority of neodymium is mined in China and they have chosen to restrict imports of it.

I'm still trying to figure out why they discontinued the NV215.

I would be pretty sure it was due to low volume sales. Jim is running a business

But they sound soooo good. I wish I had picked one up before they were discontinued.

Yup. I have often kidded Jim about having discontinued more killer enclosure designs than most companies come up with in a lifetime. Most of the time, he discontinues a product based upon the volume of sales. But I think he's also made some changes in his lineup when he feels like he can do a better job of meeting a certain goal with a different design.

What is interesting is that the NV215 is one of Jim's few designs that made it back into the lineup after being discontinued (only to be discontinued again, later on). It remains my favorite of the NV line, though, and one of my all-time favorite enclosures - especially when paired up with a nice tube head.

I like to kid with him and ask when he is gonna reintroduce the NV215 again.

The NV215 with my SVT has kept me from even looking at another cab since a few years now. Lately the NV610 has stayed in the practice room (since we got a permanent space) and the 215 gets the gigs.

I actually prefer the hs410 to the ae410 I had.

I'm not much of an Aguilar amplification fan, but the best tone I've ever achieved with their heads was through the Bergantino HS line of cabs. VERY nice match-up if you have a DB750 or the full size 500 watt head (can't remember what they call it). Round, warm, fat, but the HS tends to tighten up that somewhat loose low end of those heads (to my ear), and they are voiced perfectly for that nice organic Aguilar top end. IMO and IME! Of course, the NV610 works OK also!!!!

The good news is, the new HD210 and 410 are basically the next generation HS410 and 210 (with, what has been reported as a touch more presence in the upper mids).

Tonally, I would tend to agree, but not by a huge margin. It's more a "different flavors of good" thing. IME/IMHO, the HS410 is a better match for the DB750, along with a lot of other heads, but some other heads do see to make more magic with the AE410.

If you really dig the NV215, the fEarful 15/6 would easily keep up with it, with more midrange articulation, at 2/3rds the size and 1/2 the weight (or less, depending on the company you go with).

There is an amazing 'Art of Noise' spec that uses foam/fiberglass panels and weighs 37 pounds!

I've got a line on an HS410 for a really decent price, but I don't know if I'm up for lugging all that weight. I'd like to try it with my DB750. Maybe it'd be a good replacement for my Quattro that Fedex destroyed.
