First amp I ever bought new, still use it for practice, and now my kids band is enjoying it at times. If you see a behringer for sale (i know, folks hate them), and it still works, grab it if the price is good. Used alot of their stuff too, if its gonna die it usually does soon after purchase. If the seller has used it for a bit and it hasnt crapped out you'll have a decent amp for very little $. another good palce is Guitar centers used site, I cant tell you how many great deals they have, got a 600 dollar preamp from them for 250, if you ahve a local guitar center check their used stuff as well, great deals that wont break your bank. and if your jamming with a drummer, you want at least 100 to 150 watts (though i normally wouldnt recommend anything less than 300). Good Luck! |

Less than 100Watts is for personal practice and bedroom terrorists.
300Watts + is for people who actually play with other people.
Really though --- I would never consider having less than 600Watts - and that's a generally accepted consensus since you KNOW you'll eventually need to have the headroom and you'll want to crank it up and all you'll get is bad noise and maybe some smoke.
At 600Watts, you always have the option of turning the volume DOWN.
At 75Watts - you've already got the volume max'd out and it ain't gonna go further without trouble.
A ski mask and a large caliber weapon isn't the answer either - I'd stay with what you've got and eat mashed potato sandwiches for weeks until you could afford some more Wattage.

... I also use a Peavey Basic112 for every rehearsal with that same group ... they do get loud at times ... thats probaby 60 watts into a single 12 ... I dial the bass down and play with the EQ to clean it up and let it cut ... but there is a $100 bill working with 4 other instruments ...
... But, IF you want the deep bass to rock the neighborhood ... you aint gonna do that for $2-300 ... couple hundred and learn to make the EQ your friend and you're good to go .. otherwise stock up on mashed taters ... JMHO

Should I give them another try?
Also, not sure how I missed that Peavey. I've been on there every day for the past couple weeks... Maybe I'll go try that one out too.
There is a GC here, but they don't carry much used. There's another much better shop too, but everything they carry is out of my price range. I suppose I shouldn't complain, but isn't that what the internet is for? | On a budget I'd opt for the Acoustic B100. Great tone and you can get used ones on guitarcenter.com for 100-150. They will also ship to store for you if you'd like. Their shipping prices are also very reasonable I find. And if you don't like it you can always bring it back to the local GC for a full refund, including shipping. Be aware though the amp is pretty sizable compared to what you have been using, so you may need to account for that. |

I ran a 750rb into a 410xl for a long time, and never turned it up past 2.
Same with a hartke 5k series.
It dawned on me I was spending money on watts I'm never using. So when I revamped and had to get a new amp......I got a 200w accoustic. Cheap. It has worked perfectly.
On one hand, in a 3piece, I don't have to compete with another guitar, keys or anything else....on the other hand, when there's a guitar solo~ I'm all the music there is. So take that as you will.
Granted, when I got my 200w, they didn't have anything between that and the 600w. Now accoustic has a 300w~ I prolly would've got that at the time.

I've never played a venue that "needed" a 600 watt amp. Particularly if you have any FOH sound reinforcement, 100 watts is usually enough (150-200 may be better) for anything but a silly loud band... which I neither want to play in, or listen to.

Anywho, I normally shy away from these just because I never could get into them too much but for the money you get a lot of usable volume and good features: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ampli...x12-bass-combo
I would buy it new in your situation. If it was used I would play it for a good hour at all volume and EQ settings I could come up with.
We used to sell them at the shop I worked at in Longmont (near Boulder) but he no longer carries it. I think you may be able to find them at Spotlight Music in FOCO though.
Hope it helps!

And before I bought the Fender, I did play it for quite a while. Not all volume settings, but up enough that I'm sure I was really annoying the people in the head shop next door. Plus stuff was rattling off shelves.

There isn't much that will!
But according to Joe it is just barely giggable.
I was pointing out the misconception about how many watts you need to gig.
I use my 100T set at 25 watts for band practice. At 100 watt run through a pair of 3015's it will get stupid loud. It can keep up with the lead GP's Marshall Plexi and 212.
There are a lot of people that have and do gig their Ampeg B 25's, Just ask Jimmy.
Yeah, with a cheap SS head and cheap cab you do need a lot of watt's and speakers to be heard.
