It's been a while since I purchased a new head or cab. I have played 70+ shows a year for the last 4 or 5 years or so with a Peavey Megabass into a Yamaha 2 x 10 with horn and a 1 x 15 (both 4 ohm).
3 pieces of the 5 piece band (keys, guitar, bass {me}), are starting to do some smaller, through the week type, gigs in college bars (before and after basketball games) and coffee houses. Much smaller venues that usually don't have a stage or dance floor, but want some live entertainment. I certainly don't want to haul the big rig in there, and my little practice amp is much to small. I have used just my DI, but we're really just using a minimal PA for vocals in these little clubs and running sound from stage. I took my 5 space rack (megabass, tuner, power conditioner) and the 2 x 10 (using one side of the megabass) which worked well, but is still a bunch to haul.
I really am interested in the little GK MB-200. It would work perfect with my 2 x 10. 200 watts, 4 ohm, small, light and only 250.00 new. Here's my confusion - why would I not just go ahead and get the mb-112? Same head with a GK 1x12 for 50 bucks more. I can't build a 1x12 for 50 bucks, but I don't really need it.
I'm thinking the 200 watts into the 2 x 10 is going to move more air and give me more volume, allowing me to use it for up to some medium sized rooms on stage with some PA support for FOH, but it's hard to not get the 1x12 unit for only 50 bucks more
What's the smart play here? |

The only thing I would do is go the extra mile and get the MB2x12. That will cover you for a larger number of gigs for not too much more money.

the funk is mostly what you put in the bass, but a Jazz can hold a whole lot of it.

| | | | Just FYI, that combo is in the MBE line. The cabs get, at best, mixed reviews. They aren't even close to the tone and quality of the higher end GK neo line of speakers. Buy the head and use the cab you have IMO. |

Personally, I'd get the MB200 head, because it's so darned versatile. With your existing 2x10, it's a "combo." It also makes a great headphone amp. It also makes a great backup head to take to shows. Plus, it looks so darned cute. |

For that much difference I would definitely use my existing cab |

this is what I was looking for. My 2 x 10 is the BBT210S which gets pretty great reviews all the time and I really like it, so this makes sense to me. I'll just stand it on it's side with the little MB head and have an awesome little stack
PS - if anyone knows where I can get another one of these cabs, let me know |
