Wich Markbass is the one to get?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Folks,
i´m looking for a new small portable Amp. I´m playing a Fender Jazz Bass and a Rickenbacker 4003. In search of a warm, clear, punchy Tone and a flexible EQ I decided to get a Markbass.
I read a lot of discussion about these Amps on Talkbass and stil don´t know what Amp to get. So maybe you coul help me make a decision...

Markbass F1: I played a F500 a time ago and realy liked the quick punchy tone. But is it clear or hi-fi?!

Markbass LM 3: Should be a litte warmer the the F1 but also more flexible?

Markbass LM Rocker: I saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6iqwo828es and liked the overdrive and the "clear" tone.
Is the clear tone the same like when using the LM 3? I like the option to add a little "grind" to my Sound, espacially when I play the Rick, but for more Overdrive I miss the footswitchoption.

So what do you mean? Whats the best Amp for me?
Maybe I can´t find a Markbass that fits and should try Genz Benz or Carvin?

Thank you for your help!
Greetings from Germany,
O.

P.S. Sorry for every misstake in my english

The Little Mark series of Markbass amps are fantastic, in my opinion. I own a CMD 102P (with a 2nd generation LM in it, but the differences are negligible) and have also used it at times in a CMD 151P Jeff Berlin, which was simply awesome as well.
The LM Rocker is technically identical clean-wise, although I have not tested for myself if the tube bleeds through the clean channel.

I can't speak for the F-series of amps, although there are strong advocates of them on this forum. Perhaps they'll speak up?

Can't really answer your question directly. They all sound good.

Just a couple clarification points. The F1 and LMIII front panel controls are pretty much the same (and the LMII and F1 controls are identical). The LMIII adds a more fully featured DI.

The F1 and F500 sound identical when set neutral. The difference is features, with the F500 having the more fully featured DI like the LMIII, and adds a mute switch and two bands of semi-parametric mids.

I would not call the F1 or F500 particularly hi fi (which as we use it in the bass amplification represents deep lows, uber clean mids and sizzly upper treble). It is clean, but still quite warm.

I have not played the LMRocker, but it should should identical to the LMIII with the tube drive turned all the way down. That looks like a nice head, and that clip sounds great.
