Will this Ampeg set-up work?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone, I stumbled upon an old Ampeg B-52 cab with two 15" speakers on craigslist for $100 (due to wear and tear along with age). The cab is originally from 1973, for reference. I currently have a farily new setup that consists of an Ampeg SVT 410HLF cab with an Ampeg 350H head. Would these all go well together? It's a great offer and I've been looking for an addition to my rig. I know that some amps sound better than others especially while hooking up with different cabs. Any help?

As long as all the ohm ratings are compatible, hook them all up and have a thump.

Either way, get the 2x15. its cheap.

Your head is 4 ohms minimum, and the 410hlf is 4 ohms, so buy the cab, but don't hook both cabs to that head.

Or get re-wiring. I cant work out maths at the moment, but you might be able to run them both at about 6 ohms or something after some re-wiring.

Have fun.

Nope. Adding another cabinet to a 4 ohm load will always result in a lower ohm overall load. You could change your 410 to be a 16 ohm cab and then do the same for the 215. Then you could run the to together for a combined 8 ohm load, but honestly that'd be pretty stupid. Changing to 16 ohms renders the cab basically useless as a standalone cab.

You could look for a series cable and run the overall load at 8 ohms. Seems like a lot of effort to use that cab though. The old 215 ampegs I've played left me pretty unimpressed with anything except for there massive weight.

Are you sure it's not a B-25? And if it is, is it the B-25 or B-25-b?

I have the B-25-b cab and it's switchable between 4ohms and 16ohms, i THINK the B-25 is either JUST 16ohms, or 8ohms... i really can't remember. It's a GREAT cab. Heavy and cumbersome, sure... but the tone is spectacular.

I used it with a Kustom200 head (100w and some change, i think) as my main tour rig for 3 years in a very loud band. I don't see the need to connect it to another cab at all. If you want more, i'd pick up another head, and have the bass go to the two seperate rigs (which i did on occation with the afformentioned rig and a Sunn Colliseum300 and an old Acoustic 6x10).
