Will coldness kill my amp?

My amp and cab is in the basement where I usually practice. There is no insulation so it's cold down there this time of year. I'm a newbie bassist so is my amp safe or should I get it the heck from down there. Just hate dragging gear up and down the steps.

It will be fine as long as it's not below freezing? grab a cheap drop cloth to put over it.

The colder the happier electronics are.
Condensation can be an issue if there is moisture in the air.

Crap...the dryer is down there and we have no ventilation for the pipe in the back so it's open with a panty hose over it to collect the dust but the moist heat gets in the air...can I cover it with something to stop the moisture? A cloth won't due will it?

A cheap painters drop cloth is fine that dryer isn't on all the time and it's not throwing 80% humidity in the air.

seriously, the cold wont harm your amp, but the humidity (from the dryer) will hasten corrosion/oxidation and other detrimental stuff. Get it out of there unless you can properly vent the dryer.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

I live in Denver ... so I use a humidifier. The current humidity level is 30% ... I shoot for 35% to 50%.

While you want your electronics dry. Your guitars and basses are made from wood and their enemy is extreem dryness.

I leave my cabinet in the trunk of my car when I'm traveling away from the practice spot - never had any issues so far and it's currently 10ish outside.

I hope it's not a gas dryer... you could be breathing carbon monoxide. But whether it's gas or electric, this is something you've just got to fix.

Vent your drier. The humidity is no good for anything in your basement, and you could wind up with mold issues. This is far more of concern than temperature as far as your gear goes.

You could get one of these http://www.amazon.com/Dundas-Jafine-.../dp/B000DZFTC6 Warm air holds more water vapor than cold air holds and unless you are running a laundromat I don't think you would be introducing enough moisture in the air to ruin your amp get a cheap tarp and call it a day.

The dryer runs about once every other day but I guess to be completely safe I'll get it out of there. How about the cabinet? If I have to get that out of there also then I'll just sell it. I'm not dragging that heavy thing up and down the steps.

In a word. No. If there's high humidity, you might develop noisy pots, but those can be cleaned. But in terms of the actual circuitry? Not gonna make a bit of dif.

But is the dryer going to be okay in an uninsulated basement?
