I'm a newbie bassist so is my amp safe or should I get it the heck from down there. Just hate dragging gear up and down the steps.

Condensation can be an issue if there is moisture in the air. |

A cloth won't due will it?

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

While you want your electronics dry. Your guitars and basses are made from wood and their enemy is extreem dryness.

| | | | In a word. No. If there's high humidity, you might develop noisy pots, but those can be cleaned. But in terms of the actual circuitry? Not gonna make a bit of dif. |
