I want to get a new 15" for my combo amp the internal volume is 10x17x20. I was wondering if a kappalite 3015 would fit or if anyone else has any suggestions.

Thank You,
Tom

That's just under 2 cubic feet. Is the cab ported? If so, you have to subtract the size of the port (and its structure).

I think it's too small for a 3015 to work well.

Why do you want to change the driver---what problem are you trying to solve?

it is ported front bottom left and right little triangles. I want to change them because when I turn the volume up a ways it starts to really sound like the speaker isn't going to handle it. So pretty much what mizzou541 said

Without properly measuring the cab, then modeling a new driver to see if it will work, it's a crapshoot. You probably won't fare any better. Worth the gamble? You have to decide.

You would do far better to add an extension cab if the combo will accommodate it.

The back of the combo amp has two 1/4 inch out. 1 for 4 ohm, 1 for 8 ohm with a switch grd or lift and is labeled external speaker. Does this mean I can go out to an external cab and keep to using the 15 also? I don't really have any way of testing it because I don't have another cab and I can't really find any info about this combo amp online. You don't think any speaker even if not modeled would sound better?

It would surely help if you would post the make and model of the amp!! Someone just might have some experience with the very same unit.

That would go with a BassliteC2515.

I would estimate the usable internal volume at 1.75 cubic feet and I think your cab is tuned to about 55 Hz. The small internal volume will help protect against over-excursion, which is good considering the fairly high tuning frequency. The 8-ohm Kappalite 3015 will give you -3 dB at 72 Hz with a negligible upper bass bump. The 4-ohm Basslite C2515 will give you -3 dB at 71 Hz with a 4 dB peak at about 110 Hz, at about 1.5 dB lower efficiency than the 3015.

My two cents/opinion – I would not replace your combo speaker as the enclosure is too small for deep bass.
Assuming your combo amp has a 4 ohm minimum load -
I would get an 8 ohm extension 1x15 cabinet – one that has an enclosure about twice as big as your combo.
This way you can use both the external cabinet and the internal combo speaker together and hopefully the volume will match up good enough (test before buying).
First verify that your internal speaker is 8 ohms - if it is 4 ohms you can’t run the internal speaker and an external cabinet at the same time.

My .015...it won't be any worse than it is now.

But the OP probably wants it to sound better than it is now.
1.75 CF is small for a 1x15 - most decent 1x15 cabinets are around 5 cubic feet.

If I got an extension cab it would be 8 ohms correct? Also, should I get a 210 or 115? What do you recommend?

swiggyswag,
Could you post a picture of the back panel of your combo amp?
Also you should make sure that the internal speaker is 8 ohms
- if it is 4 ohms you can’t run the internal speaker and an external cabinet at the same time.

I suggested adding a 1x15 extension cabinet because with a little luck it would match up OK volume-wise with your internal combo speaker.

You can get an 8 ohm 2x10, 2x12, 4x10, etc - but for that you should take your combo amp to a music dealer and play through the cabinets to see how they match up. For example, a 4x10 will probably be louder than your combo's internal speaker; it might not sound much different than using the 4x10 by itself.

Somebody should just start a giant "That's what she said" thread for no reason at all. It wouldn't even make sense, but it'd be damn funny.

The internal speaker is 8 ohm. I will have to take a picture tomorrow. I'm 200 miles away from the combo amp right now The back has a 1/4 inch for 8 ohm and 4 ohm with a little switch on the back that says grd or lift this is all labeled external speaker.
