Been waiting for a 15% off sale at MF to snag a GK MB200 as a general purpose backup for guitar and bass. And I had an epiphany this morning that if I bought another old 400RB (the old style blocky jobbies) perhaps GK would refurb it for me the way Peavey does with older gear. As I hear it, Peavey's prices for SS lead sled bass amp refurbs aren't bad at all. And when received it looks, feels, and plays like new again.
Anyone know if GK offers this service? Anyone had it done? How far did they go? Was it cost effective compared to buying 2 or 3 old 400RBs and just trashing them once they give it up?
I had on old 400RB that had to be one of the very first ones made, and it sounded killer and ran like a raped ape. Punchy and growly with a bass or a guitar. Loved humbuckers. I want THAT sound on a backup head, but I want it uber reliable and cheap. That's probably mutually exclusive.

But you should call them directly... they'd know the answer to your question better than anyone here
Their contact info: http://www.gallien-krueger.com/contact/ |

I just type in a coupon code that doesn't apply, then when a small window pops up you hit chat now. Then tell the person that your 15% off coupon code isn't working and they'll give you a "new" one. |

And an authorized service center would likely charge a helluva lot more than factory, if Peavey's program is any indication (service center quote was almost double Peavey's charges)
Thanks for the 15% tip bench!

Older GK and big iron PV heads just run forever no matter how you abuse them. GK can do hi-fi clear and GK growl, and Peavey is usually a clean pallet for whatever tone you want to squeeze out with pre's or pedals, or growly with the older T-max and similar heads. CS at both places has always been stellar in my experience, even if the CS reps are not up to speed sometimes on everything the company offers. And prices on new and used equipment is always reasonable (OK ... the price of the VB-3 sucked balls at almost 2 grand, but still). What's not to love?

| | | | I'm curious about the Peavey reburbishing angle - I looked around on their site, and didn't see anything about it. How would you get in touch with them about this? Is there a special website or phone # to call? I have an old Mark III that could use a tune up. |
