Will Going Direct Into a Mixer Damage It?

Sign in to disble this ad
I know this seems like a VERY simple question, and I apologize in advance if it is stupid.

Will plugging a bass directly into a Mixer (Behringer EUROPOWER PMP960M 900W Powered Mixer) damage it?

Is there anything inherently more dangerous, or destructive to plugging a bass in as opposed to a microphone, keyboard, or acoustic guitar? Will using a bass in this way lessen the life of the mixer? Are there any issues worth being concerned about?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

It wont damage it. Plugging a bass right into the channel might not provide enough level though. Some basses are hotter than others. You might need a preamp to bring it up enough.

It might anger the Ampeg gods by not using an SVT or Portaflex, and they might rain down fire and brimstone upon thee - but you'll be OK Plugging a bass into a mixer direct is no different than any other mic or line signal.

I practice into a mixer all the time at home. Just adjust the channel input gain so you're not clipping on peaks, and it works just dandy.
