Will this kill my combo?

I'm picking up an acoustic B100. I'm curious if I can use it as an extra cab. I was thinking of plugging the output of one of my heads into the speaker out on the B100 with the B100 powered off to use it as a second cab.

You can install "amp out" and "speaker in" jacks into the rear panel of your combo's cab, and use a short zip-cord jumper cable with phone plugs to connect them when you want to use the combo's head with the combo's speaker. Long ago I did this on several amps using Switchcraft thick-panel phone jacks. Easy job. Use whatever style connectors you want. You could even use a pair of recessed terminal cups. Back then, phone plugs/jacks were "it" for speaker connections, so that's what we did.

Yes, what you are describing will most likely kill both your combo and your head.

The "Speaker Out" on on the Acoustic is designed to be plugged into an extension speaker cabinet. It is a speaker-level OUTPUT. Plugging another amp into that would be disasterous for both amps, because you are running a speaker-level output into another speaker-level output. Bad, bad new.

Now, if there is a way to disconnect the internal speaker of your Acoustic combo from the internal amp, you can plug THAT into an external head, but it may not work well. I would guess that the internal speaker is only rated for 200-250 watts (if anyone has actual figures, let me know) and your head may be putting out more wattage than that, which may damage the speaker if you turn it up too loud.

Now, what might actually work well, if you need another cabinet, is to run from your head's "line output" (if it has one) into either the effect return (if the Acoustic has one; this would be the preferable situation) or just into the regular bass input. Make sure you start with the input gain on the Acoustic all the way down in the second scenario.

I'm very curious about the speakers wattage rating too. I've been considering taking the acoustic head out and mounting my Trace Elliot head in there. Its an AH130 head (130 watts) I'm hoping that Acoustic uses the same 15" speakers in the combo that they use in their other 15" cabs.
