Will a subwoofer meant for car audio work as a replacement?

My cheap 30w practice amp needs a new speaker and I am just curious what kind of budget replacement might work? Im thinking I could find a cheap subwoofer and replace it with that. But I am unsure if that would work or not. I dont even know if the 30 watts would be enough to push one.

Any insight?

Subwoofers don't have enough tonal range to work in bass amps, and car audio and instrument audio are completely different animals and car audio speakers will blow in instrument amps. So no, it won't work. Rather, it will work, but it will be crap.

I had to find out for my self. I tried it
in different ways over a long period of
time.

I am convinced that it is a waste of
time and money,

Hi.

It will make a sound...

IME it will be a waste of money though if You can't use it in its intended use though: as an enclosed space subwoofer.

What diameter are we talking about?
And what impedance?

The MI bass speakers for that kind of power handling start at ~20€.

Where is a good place to find generic/universal bass amp speakers?

I'd try Parts Express -they carry most of the major brands plus their Eminence selection is quite good
