WinISD gurus.....help please

Sign in to disble this ad
hey TB. I'm trying to get into custom cab designing/building, but first I'm doing research to make sure I understand how to properly design and tune a cabinet. I've been learning about WinISD and reading tutorials, but I'm at a stage where I have all this information in front of me, but I'm not able to translate it into something I can understand. I'm curious if there is a person that is familiar with WinISD who would be willing to chat with me on the phone for a little bit so I could get a better grasp on this program. it's obvious that it's essential to proper cabinet design.

also, my name is Joseph.

Got kids sleeping here but what is it you're having problems with?

If it's anything like me I've been playing instruments since I was 12. I didn't even think about designing a speaker until my early 30's when I got this new fangled thing called the internet and started reading TB. At first, one thing I had to kinda retrain my brain to do was think in terms of frequency instead of pitch. While the two are related, they're not the same at all.

Get that sorted out....then you can look at some graphs and pretty closely imagine what something will sound like without actually hearing it. Also note WinISD is good for predicting response below 200hz or so. Above that refer to the drivers response chart for what it will do. Above roughly 200hz, things like porting, etc. don't have an effect, everything acts like it's in a sealed box at that point.

Should add that I'm no guru but I can make it work and get good sounding speakers out of it.
