wiring a 4x10 with 8&16 ohm speakers

I have a hartke 4x10xl where two of the 4 8 ohm drivers were buzzing, presumably because it had been ran with too much power by the previous owner. when i asked him about it he was nice enough to stop by and we swapped out speakers that he had in a 2x10 that were 16 ohm hartke aluminum speakers. I first just connected them all in serial, but the output was drastically lower than a 15 and tweeter cab that was powered from the other output of my hartke 3500 head. I tried to make a few 'y' speaker cables to rewire the 2 16 ohmers in parallel, but it doesn't sound right at all. can anyone help me out with a little advice and maybe a link to a picture that will help me solve this dillemma?

The only advice I could give you is that mixing speakers of different ohms in the same cab is a very bad idea.

Your remaining two 8 ohm speakers are going to be getting twice the power of your 16 ohm speakers.

Hey BP thanks for the reply, well i have the 8's wired in series, and 16s in parallel to drop the resistance to 8 ohms.. does anyone know of some decent cheap 10's to replace these with or should i just go for another 200$ second-hand cab?

Very bad idea, you need all 4 spkrs matched to each other, and the cab.

I'm all for trying stuff out and milking old gear for all its worth, but you'd maybe be better off parting out the cab and putting the cash into a new used one. SO much great gear out there on sale now.

Also, I dont think all hartke aluminum cone drivers are created equal. You may have 2 transporter 16 ohmers...

Its never going to work properly - sorry but that's fact. Use WinISD and try to find some drivers that will work well in your cabinet.
