Would this cut it? (Small bar gig)

Sign in to disble this ad
Maybe a dumb question, but just asking because I haven't tried it before. Our band (three piece rock band) is doing a gig at a small bar this Saturday (probably a venue where about 30-40 people can stand around comfortably). I was thinking of lugging my big old Peavey TNT 115...but now wondering if I should try my Genz Benz Shuttlemax 6.0 with my DrBass 115 cab. Would certainly make load in and out much easier.

Just wondering thoughts on if this would be "enough" for a gig like this. The guitarist is going to be using a smaller Peavey combo amp and I have a kickback stand for the cab if needed.

Thanks.

TNT may cut it but why chance it? Bring the GB + DrBass. It's not like you are making your life that much easier, right? It's not like you are leaving the SVT + 810 at home, lol.

Well, to clarify, I was asking if the Genz Benz + the 115 cab would be better than the Peavey TNT. I think it would be, but was just trying to get thoughts. I haven't tried this particular combination before. I normally use the 115 cab coupled with a 210 cab, powered with a Kustom Groove 1200...but I know that would be overkill for this gig!

Agree 100 percent. GB + DB = TNT x 2.

I have two DB cabs and despite the current state of the company, he made some fine cabs! The GB head is FAR better also. Not bashing the TNT, it's a decent amp for the money.

Well, as long as there's enough space for the footprint of your rig to occupy at this venue, it's only overkill when you turn up too loud, right?

I agree that the GB and 1x15 ought to be the right call.

I have the Genz 6.0 and through a single 15" it should MORE than do what you need done in that size area.

I use my little MarkBass 12" combo only in all small clubs and restaurants. Unless you want disco levels, your GB and 115 should be fine. Of course you can take 2 cabs and leave one in the car if you don't need it.

An acoustical secret you can use - put the cab in a corner if possible pointing out. The walls of the room act like a giant horn and increases your level by 6 dB or something crazy like that. The sound is enormous! When I do this I don't even turn the MB up to 1/3.
