Would getting an all tube amp be redundant?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, right now I have a Aguilar DB751 hybrid amp that I absolutely love. It's my first experience with tubes and I have to say, I totally dig it.

I've been considering getting an all tube amp this time around (either an orange, Fender, or maybe Ampeg) but I'm not sure if it would be redundant to get considering I already get a huge tubey sound from my DB751.

Am I missing something with my DB751 that I would gain if I went all tube?

Gracias!

Headroom. All the amps you listed have a lower wattage than the DB751
DB751 - 750 watts @ 4 ohms
Ampeg SVT-CL - 300W @ 4 ohms
Orange AD 200B - 200W @ 4 ohms
Fender Bassman Pro - 300W @ 4 ohms

Honestly though if you run with a big cab, like an 8x10, you should still be loud enough for any circumstances where you won't have PA support.

Only if you like that sound of all tube amps over all other options. I do, do you?

Why do us tube lovers love tubes?

This is, of course, only the very beginning, and most recent, of the reading available on such a subject.

You have a great sounding amp no matter what it's guts are made from. There are other great sounding amp and some pretty crappy sounding amps no matter what their guts are made from.

That said, if I was buying a brand new all tube head... I'd be spending time at the Reeves site picking one out http://www.reevesamps.com/
